Merry Christmas!

Christmas bauble

Christmas day is nearly over here in Australia, and it’s been a great day. We started off eating shakshuka and fresh fruit for breakfast.

Then we opened presents. Santa had visited for the first time in several years and left me some chocolate money in my stocking, something he always left for us when we were kids. I got some great presents from my parents and my brother, including The Art of Fermentation, some yummy food and a ticket to a show of my choice. Everyone seemed to like my homemade presents (I’ll be sharing the recipes over the next few weeks).

Christmas lunch

After that my grandparents came over for Christmas dinner and we had a fairly traditional meal: roast turkey, gravy ham, roast veggies, asparagus, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower cheese. For dessert we had plum pudding, cream, custard, chocolate mousse and fresh fruit.

Tonight we watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on TV, which is a tradition in my family.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. What traditions does your family have?

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful day! I live within 2 hours of my extended family so we all get together on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day for dinner. All the stores are closed on Dec 26 for Boxing Day, and I suppose most people will be looking for blowout sales on the 27th! I will be relaxing at home and eating chocolates 🙂

  2. Sounds like fun! We watch National Lampoon’s every year as well and laugh so much 🙂 One of the TV stations plays A Christmas Story on repeat all Christmas day so we’ll catch bits and pieces of that too. We spend Christmas with family since we all live close, but the few days after are usually just for relaxing 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas! We attend church services on Christmas eve. This year we had a few family members over after that for a light supper. Christmas day is just my family opening gifts. I make homemade cinnamon rolls on the 24th so we can enjoy an easy morning on the 25th. My hubby cooks a ham dinner and that’s pretty much our day.

  4. That looks like a lovely day. Love the idea of the breakfast first, it looks delicious!
