Homemade Guacamole


Usually I just serve Mexican food with slices of avocado because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered making proper guacamole. But for special occasions, like having people over, or hosting a party I go all-out with the guac and add fresh coriander 🙂

Coriander seems to be a herb that you either love or hate, but it makes this guacamole fresh and delicious. After making homemade guacamole you won’t want to eat the store-bought stuff (with its cream cheese filler and preservatives) ever again.


2 avocados

1/2 cup of fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped

2 tomatoes, diced (optional)

Juice of 1 lime

Salt and pepper


Mash the avocados in a bowl. Add the coriander, diced tomato and lime juice and mix together. Taste and then season with salt and pepper.

Enjoy with pulled pork, chili or corn chips 🙂

  2. I heard recently that there is a gene that determines whether or not you like coriander. I guess that might explain the strong reactions that herb gets.

  4. I actually LOVE cilantro but alas, it doesn’t love me as I am deathly allergic to it. Sigh.

    Anyhow, I have a friend who always puts cottage cheese in her guacamole. I was a skeptic at first, but it actually tastes delicious! Most people around here just mix some pre-made salsa into their mashed avocado to make guacamole, but your recipe sounds yummy!

    • Cottage cheese sounds interesting. I often worry that if I add too much it will mask the delicious flavour of the avocado, so I like to have my salsa and sour cream separate, but each to their own 🙂

  7. One word: YUM!! We have a huge pot of coriander on the back verandah – all of us here are definitely on Team Coriander! We also have a lime tree so will definitely make this to go with the pulled pork – thx!!
